Brief Description / Features of the Technology:

Three varieties of ipil-ipil [leucaena leucocephala (Lam.) de witt] were chemically investigated to determine the potential of the seeds for the production of gum additive for paper.  The ipil-ipil gum suspension at concentration levels of 0.2 %, 0.3% and 0.4%, based on the oven-dry weight of the pulp, increased the dry-tensile strength of a mixed unbleached kraft pulp (UKP) (30%) kraft cuttings (KC) (70%), pulp handsheets from 9 to 12% over the control in both acid and neutral stock.
