An awarding ceremony was hosted by the Department of Science and Technology – Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI) to personally hand over granted intellectual property (IP) certificates by the Intellectual property of the Philippines (IPOPHL) to various Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Research and Development Institutes (RDIs), State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), High schools, and private inventors at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC). October 25, 2018. The DOST-TAPI has been assisting inventors for the past decades.

TAPI Director Edgar I. Garcia encouraged the recipients of IP certificates that this event will only prove that they own innovations and technologies that have IP protection. What matters next is the commercialization of their protected technologies, and DOST-TAPI is very open to assisting them further.

Atty. Lolibeth R. Medrano, Director of the Bureau of Patents – IPOPHL, is the guest speaker of the program. Atty. Medrano said that the IPOPHL recognizes the DOST’s and the Institute’s support to IP protection and technology commercialization, and in bringing out the commercially viable technologies to the market through technical and financial assistance. Atty. Medrano looks forward to further partnership with DOST-TAPI.

Through the IP assistance program, the number of quality local patent filings in the Institute increased in recent years, TAPI IDD Chief Atty. Marion Ivy D. Decena stated during her closing remarks. From 2008 up to present, the institute has assisted more than 4,000 IP applications.
