Country’s sole patent association to audit gov’t-created intellectual properties

Bicutan, Taguig City – As a highlight of the 31st anniversary of the Technology Application and Promotion Institute (TAPI), a MOA signing was done between TAPI and the Association of PAQE Professionals, Inc. (APP) yesterday.

Engr. Edgar I. Garcia, TAPI’s Director, announced this new collaborative activity, which will enable APP to audit the intellectual properties (IP) from government-generated technologies, in particular from research projects that were funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

Representing APP, Vice President Noel Catibog expressed high hopes that his association would help the DOST better in patenting its technologies. Witnessing the signing were Atty. Marion Ivy D. Decena, Chief of TAPI’s Invention Development Division, and Engr. Manolita Aurora O. Javate, APP’s Secretary.

APP is the only association of registered patent agents in the Philippines who passed the Patent Agent Qualifying Examinations being administered by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) since 2006. In 2014, APP helped TAPI to breach the usual annual patent filings from 18 to 100 applications.

The signing, which also served as TAPI’s formal announcement for this rejuvenated partnership, aims to initially cover at least 14 IP audits across the country and assess about 700 technologies until end of February alone. (Caezar Angelito E. Arceo)
