In order to meet the evolving demands of the foreign market, a training-workshop on advanced Freedom-to-Operate (FTO) will be held on 27-28 June 2019 at the Dusit Thani Manila, Makati City.
The two-day live-in training-workshop is organized by the Technology Application and Promotion Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-TAPI) in collaboration with the Swedish Patent and Registration Office (PRV).
PRV is a Stockholm-based government agency responsible for patents, trademarks, and industrial design.
“This training is the second part of the training conducted by DOST-TAPI in 2017 and 2018 on the basics of FTO,” said Atty. Marion Ivy D. Decena, Division Chief of DOST-TAPI.
“Our focus shifted to FTO assessment outside of the Philippines now that we are pushing for commercialization of DOST technologies in the international arena,” Decena added.
Dr. Linus Plym Forshell and Mr. Ingemar Wistrand, FTO experts from PRV, will spearhead the training-workshop as resource speakers.
Both have been conducting FTO searches, validity searches, and novelty searches, among others, for national and international clients as patent examiners and information specialists.
“We are fortunate to have experts from the PRV to help us conduct FTO in the international arena as they share their expertise in the field,” emphasized Decena.
The training-workshop will tackle on the basics of FTO, patent, database, and FTO search, and patent landscaping, to name a few.
Selected participants from research and development institutes and state universities and colleges who attended the previous basic FTO training-workshop are expected to attend the event.
The event is under the DOST-funded project in support to the commercialization of DOST-generated technologies, aimed at strengthening the country’s intellectual property and technology portfolios.
