TAPI continues to capacitate DOST employees on IP Rights

Taguig City – The Technology Application and Promotion Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-TAPI) reaffirms its commitment to train the department’s specialists by conducting a three-day “Capacity Building for DOST Employees on Intellectual Property Rights” from September 30 to October 2, 2019.

“This training was organized in order to produce our very own evaluators/para-agent that will help our in-house patent agents in the future,” Atty. Marion Ivy D. Decena, Chief Science Research Specialist of the Invention Development Division (TAPI-IDD) said during the opening ceremony,” said TAPI Program Manager Clifford Glenn said.

Held at the TAPI Audio Visual Room inside the DOST Complex here in Bicutan, the training was initiated by Mr. Clifford Glenn Malaay of TAPI’s IPR Assistance Program (IPRAP) as part of his reentry plan upon completion of “Intellectual Property for ASEAN Countries” in South Korea last December 2018.

“The activity aims to capacitate the technology licensing professionals and provide further information of Intellectual Property Rights,” Mr. Malaay added.

Prominent personalities in the field of IP were invited as resource speakers, namely: Atty. Jerry C. Serapion of Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice), Atty. Ma. Gladys C Vilchez of Hechanova Bugay Vilchez & Andaya-Racadio Law Offices, Atty. Bayani B. Loste of Fortun Narvasa & Salazar, and Engr. Amelia R. Amon of Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) and tackles topics: Prior Art Search, Basic Patent Drafting, and Industrial Design Application and Registration Process.

A total of 46 participants from Research and Development Institutes (RDIs), DOST councils, regional offices, and selected TAPI personnel participated in the event.
