Brief Description of the technology:
This hydrogel is made from a binder (polyvinylpyrrolidone) and seaweed (carrageenan). They are in the form of transparent gel sheets with very high water content, & in 3-4mm thickness.
Problem Addressed:
- Better option than traditional bandages and dressings that stick to the skin thus causing re – opening and bleeding of wounds whenever it is being replaced.
- This is good for diabetic wounds that take longer time heal
- Persistent bedsores
- Burns
Advantages:
- Hydrogel promotes an efficient and faster wound healing. Its very high water content keeps the wound moist helps protect the body from wound infections.
- It does not stick to wound surface thus it could only cause a very minimal degree of discomfort when changing dressing. It does not cause reopening or bleeding of wounds.
- It soothes pain for hours.
- Its transparent nature, allows for visibility of healing progress while letting wound remain protected.
- cost is only a fraction of imported equivalent products; is applicable for various wounds, sores, & ulcers; it can be also be made into skin patches infused w/ active ingredients.
