AN IPIL-IPIL SEED-DERIVED GUM ADDITIVE FOR PAPERMAKING
Field / Industry: Chemical
Agency: Forest Products Research and Development Institute (FPRDI)
Patent Number / Registration Number: 24579
Status of Application: Expired
Brief Description / Features of the Technology:
Three varieties of ipil-ipil [leucaena leucocephala (Lam.) de witt] were chemically investigated to determine the potential of the seeds for the production of gum additive for paper. The ipil-ipil gum suspension at concentration levels of 0.2 %, 0.3% and 0.4%, based on the oven-dry weight of the pulp, increased the dry-tensile strength of a mixed unbleached kraft pulp (UKP) (30%) kraft cuttings (KC) (70%), pulp handsheets from 9 to 12% over the control in both acid and neutral stock.
Problem Addressed:
- Substitute material for imported paper additive
Advantages:
- Reduced importation of paper additive
Market Potential / Application:
