A PROCESS FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF COMPRESSED STRUCTURAL FIBERBOARD

Field / Industry: Construction

Agency: Forest Products Research and Development Institute (FPRDI)

Patent Number / Registration Number: 2-2008-000413

Status of Application: Expired

Brief Description / Features of the Technology:

A process for the manufacture of adhesive-free coconut fiberboard utilizing 100% coconut husk without using any synthetic adhesive or binder.  Coconut fiberboard is produced at a total pressing cycle of 25-40 minutes with the application of “step-down method” to avoid puncture during the opening of the press platens.  The specific pressure applied during pressing range from 50 to 150 bars.  The final board density ranges from 0.80 g/cc to 1.4 g/cc and a final board thickness range of 5 to 7mm

Problem Addressed:

  • Utilization of coconut husk wastes
  • Raw material expansion for composite panels

Advantages:

  • Environment-friendly
  • Adhesive-free

Market Potential:
